About PT-PAC
PT-PAC FAQ
Does PT-PAC give preference to one political party over another in disbursing funds to candidates?
The party that is in control of the House of Representatives and the Senate usually will receive more support. Especially in the House of Representatives, the party in control dictates what is considered and what is passed. APTA must voice its legislative priorities and PT-PAC enables this to happen.
How many APTA members contribute to PT-PAC?
Depending on the year, 11-14% of APTA members contribute to PT-PAC. Higher participation occurs during election years.
Are my contributions to PT-PAC tax deductible?
Political contributions are not tax deductible for federal income purposes.
Can I designate that my contribution to PT-PAC be "earmarked" for disbursement to a specific candidate?
No. All personal contributions are put in one bank account for consideration for disbursement for federal candidates based on certain criteria. APTA members can recommend to PT-PAC a candidate for which it should support but APTA staff will make the decision who will receive PT-PAC contributions.
Will my contribution to PT-PAC be made public?
If a contribution is $250 or more during a year it will be made public in APTA's April edition of PT Magazine. If a member does not want his/her name public PT-PAC will grant that request.
Does any portion of my APTA dues go to PT-PAC contributions to candidates?
No. It is illegal to use association dues for PAC contributions to candidates. All contributions must be separate and voluntary to PT-PAC.
Is there a minimum contribution level?
All contributions are welcomed and appreciated. The Century Club level is the lowest recognized level ($100) but all contributions are welcomed and needed. Student members have their own club (Student Stars), to which students can join for $20.
